New Year resolutions can create revolution in our lives!

In the Book of Joshua we see Joshua declaringwhat all Christians should verbalize, "Andif it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whomyou will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were onthe other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land youdwell. But as for me and my house, wewill serve the LORD” (Joshua 24:15 NKJV).

If you andI made this resolution, it would create a revolution of change that would influenceus and the world around us in a positive way! Putting God first, being obedientto His Word, and walking in His ways will bless you, and those around you!

One of myfavorite Scriptures in the Bible is Joshua 1:8. It says, “ThisBook of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in itday and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written init. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have goodsuccess.” Wow! Serving the Lord, and being obedient to His Word promisesblessings, and success!

God's Christmas Gift

The most perfect love gift ever given was thegift God gave at Christmas, the gift of His Son Jesus.

"And it came to pass in those daysthat a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should beregistered. This census first took placewhile Quirinius was governing Syria. So all went to be registered,everyone to his own city. Joseph also went up from Galilee,out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is calledBethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, hisbetrothed wife, who was with child. So it was, that while they werethere, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth herfirstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger,because there was no room for them in the inn" (Luke 2:1-7 NKJV).

What an unlikely place for a king to be born! After a difficult journey for a woman in the ninth month of pregnancy, a stable is the last place that a caring husband would want her to be, but God had a plan. Itwas to ensure that we would always know that He came for all of us, from thelowest to the greatest.
esus was God and always remained God. But He added humanity to who He is in order to build a bridge between man and God.

Jesus is the reason we celebrate Christmas!

Authentic community is what every one of us need. God created us with an innate desire for relationships that are authentic. Relationships that encourage, motivate, and challenge us to be the best we can be are authentic. Friends who build each other up in God's Word are most meaningful. These kinds of authentic communities provide accountability, and promote healthy living. Small groups accommodate this level of community.

The OFFICIAL weekend box office numbers are in, and a little movie produced by a church in Albany, Georgia was the No. 1 new release of the weekend—defeating three films on at least twice as many screens. In addition, Courageous led all films in per-screen average.

HUGE RESERVES

Dr. Bill Bright of Campus Crusade for Christ told this story of a famous oilfield called Yates Pool:

During the depression this field was a sheep ranch owned by a man named Yates.Mr. Yates wasn’t able to make enough on his ranching operation to pay theprincipal and interest on the mortgage, so he was in danger of losing hisranch.
With little money for clothes or food, his family (like many others) had tolive on government subsidy.

Day after day, as he grazed his sheep over those rolling West Texas hills, hewas no doubt greatly troubled about how he would pay his bills. Then aseismographic crew from an oil company came into the area and told him theremight be oil on his land. They asked permission to drill a wildcat well, and hesigned a lease contract.

At 1,115 feet they struck a huge oil reserve. The first well came in at 80,000 barrelsa day. Many subsequent wells were more than twice as large. In fact, 30 yearsafter the discovery, a government test of one of the wells showed it still hadthe potential flow of 125,000 barrels of oil a day.

And Mr. Yates owned it all. The day he purchased the land he had received theoil and mineral rights. Yet, he’d been living on relief.

Amultimillionaire living in poverty.

Theproblem? He didn’t know the oil was there even though he owned it.*

The individual who seeks God first attains the balanced life! In the book of Romans, the author directs all believers to be devoted to God. “Everything he is and has is to be dedicated to the worship and service of God. Anything less than total devotion is short of God's glory: it is sin.”[ The body of Christ is to present their body to God as a living sacrifice. This offering is to be sacrificial. Likened to the picture we have in the Old Testament where believers took animals and offered them to God as sacrifices. We are to make the same kind of sacrificial offering to God, but our offering is not to be the sacrifice of an animal's flesh and blood. The offering and sacrifice of the believer is to be his body: he is to offer his body as a living sacrifice.1

Conflict - A Time to Teach & Learn

The purpose of conflict is to teach, and learn. Ministering in the midst of conflict is not easy, and when conflict is not approached properly, it can lead to feelings of inadequacy; which may evolve into the feeling of burn-out. The Apostle Paul encourages us with this purposeful statement, “All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation” (2 Corinthians 5:18 NIV).

Live Like You Are Dying

This is a picture I recently took of a Century Plant in Old Towne San Diego.
It takes ten, twenty, sometimes even fifty years for a Century Plant to bloom. All this time the plant is storing up the energy to bloom. It has one opportunity to produce thousands of buds and eventually seeds. After the tree has fully bloomed and dropped its seeds the huge trunk slowly withers and will start dying. The plant has expended all of the life that it had nurtured and has nothing left to sustain life. It has fulfilled its mission to live, grow, and reproduce.

The Apostle Paul expressed his passion, “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21 NKJV).

Imagine living only to produce fruit for the kingdom of God!

In “Plumb & Level - Getting it Right from the Beginning.” you will learn God loves you and cares deeply about you. He cares and is concerned about every area of your life! Even before God’s glorious plan of creation, He was mindful of you and you were the focus of His love and care. You will encounter Biblical truths pertaining to:

Quality of life.
Longevity of life.
Legacy of life.

Then we will take a look at, "Taking Care of Me, Inside and Out." A person can spend countless hours attempting to improve the outside (body), but if the inside is neglected, you have a life that is terribly out of balance. In this message you will learn how to improve you, on the inside and out!

You see, if you take care of the heart, the spiritual man, you are off to a great start to a balanced life.

It is a sad day for any person when he becomes so satisfied with his life, his thoughts and his deeds that he ceases to be challenged to do greater things in life.

Serve with Care!

Preaching the Gospel is a great honor. This high honor dictates a careful and reverent handling of the truth. The goal must forever be in mind however, that of reception rather than dispensing. In the Gospel of Luke, Luke states, “So all bore witness to Him, and marveled at the gracious words which proceeded out of His mouth. And they said, "Is this not Joseph's son?" (Luke 4:22 NKJV). Delivery is the key! The gracious words of Christ carried the Gospel message of hope and life. When the proclamation of God’s word is not tempered with love it stings and is not received (1 Cor. 13). The result is hurt and offense.
When you care for people you minister with care. This saying rings true, “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much care.”

Why Go To Church?

A friend of mine sent this to me, and I think it makes a wonderful point!
A church goer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday. “I’ve gone for 30 years now,” he wrote, “and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons. But for the life of me, I can’t remember a single one of them. So, I think I’m wasting my time and the pastors are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all.”

This started a real controversy in the “Letters to the Editor” column, much to the delight of the editor. It went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher:

“I’ve been married for 30 years now...In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But, for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. However, I do know this..They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!”

If you need direction for your life and family, or you have been away from church, I want to encourage you to go to a local church that teaches the Bible. Hebrews 10:24-25 tells us, "And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching" (NKJV).

Now do what's right for yourself and your family! Go to Church!

The Overflowing Kindness of God’s Grace

This picture was taken as my wife and I were sightseeing in Amish country in Ohio. As I marveled at the beauty before me I was reminded of God's amazing grace.

A long time ago, a man truly experienced God’s grace His name was John Newton. Though he was brought up in the church as a child, he became a calloused man full of anger, pain, and uncertainty. Because of that, He experienced many troubles.

At one time, he was a commander of a slave ship. He would anchor his ship off the coast of Africa and pack it with slaves They were ruthlessly chained side by side, row after row, one after another just like a can of sardines. Many slaves died on the long voyages and were thrown overboard for the fish to eat.

During a raging storm at sea, John Newton finally gave his life to Jesus Christ. Over the next few years, God brought people across his life in order to disciple him. He later became one of Britain’s most powerful evangelists. Feeling guilty about his past slavery involvement, He triumphantly fought against the slave trade. He wrote many hymns during his ministry years but one has become his most famous one. Maybe you’ve heard of it, it's entitled, Amazing Grace.

Have you experienced God’s amazing grace?

God’s grace can be experienced through His Son Jesus Christ. God’s love letter to us says, “Through the blood of his Son, we are set free from our sins. God forgives our failures because of his overflowing kindness” (Ephesians 1:7 GW, Bible).

The Real Deal?

Reaching the end of a job interview, the Human Resources Person asked a young accountant who was fresh out of school, "What starting salary were you thinking about?" The Accountant said, "In the neighborhood of $100,000 a year, depending on the benefits package."

The interviewer said, "Well, what would you say to a package of 5 weeks vacation, full medical and dental, Company Retirement Fund to 50% of salary, Executive Share Option Scheme, Profit Related Pay and a company car leased every 2 years - say, a 5 series BMW?"

The Accountant sat up straight and said, "Wow! Are you kidding?"

The interviewer replied, "Yes, but you started it."

This story reminds me of a saying we have all heard growing up, “Don’t believe anything you hear and only half of what you see.” During these tough times we are living in it has become difficult to know what you can count on, what is real and not just false hope. The good news is this. God loves you so much that He sent His Son to earth over two-thousand years ago. Jesus the Son of God died on the cross for your sins that you may have eternal life!. You can count on the Lord Jesus to help you, save you, and be with you through difficult times. This is the real deal

This truth is expressed beautifully in a paraphrase of the Bible called, The Message, “Say the welcoming word to God—"Jesus is my Master"—embracing, body and soul, God's work of doing in us what he did in raising Jesus from the dead. That's it. You're not "doing" anything; you're simply calling out to God, trusting him to do it for you. That's salvation. With your whole being you embrace God setting things right, and then you say it, right out loud: "God has set everything right between him and me" (Romans 10:9-10).

This is the greatest country on the earth! I’m not aware if there has ever been any better. The Founding Fathers of this great Nation risked it all! Of the 56 signers of the Declaration, few were long to survive. Five were captured by the British as traitors, and tortured before they died. Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned. Two lost their sons in the Revolutionary Army, another had two sons captured. And though few of them benefited from their bravery, and most lost everything they owned, not one recanted his original declaration of independence.

These men were courageous and valiant and brave and because of them and others, we have the privilege of being here today, and living in the greatest country in the world.

As citizens of such a great nation, we have been blessed with the task of stewardship. Stewardship of a nation in which others fought, sacrificed and died for. Our Founding Fathers sacrificed a great deal in order that we could have this great nation. Men like Jefferson, Washington, Adams, among others paid a great price for our freedom. Throughout the years countless numbers of people have laid their lives on the line to fight for the freedoms we now enjoy.

All Americans have a responsibility to maintain the greatness of our country. We are responsible to continue the tenants our founding fathers ascribed to so adamantly. Luke tells us in his Gospel, “For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more (Luke 12:48b NKJV).

As great as our country is, we are not without problems. One of the things we need to understand concerning the problems our nation struggles with is the fact they are rooted in spiritual issues. The United States of America is a nation founded on the Word of God. The men who established this nation were God-fearing men.

Patrick Henry stated, “It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians, not on religions, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ!”

The Founding Fathers left us a wonderful country. What kind of country are we going to leave our children and grandchildren?

Keep in mind: Our Constitution ends “in the year of our Lord.” Our Nation’s motto: “In God we trust,” and, our Pledge “One nation under God.”

While you enjoy your freedoms this month, don’t forget at what cost they came, and the foundation upon which they were laid.

The Power of Dad

I was amazed to find out little David was adopted! I couldn’t believe it, but my mother assured me it was true. I was four years older than David and the fact he was adopted did not trouble me, it intrigued me. Why you might ask? Well, it was because David walked like his dad. He even talked like his dad, and many times you could witness his dad in miniature through him. This, my friends is an example of influence. This is the powerful influence that I call, “The Power of Dad.”
Little eyes mimic, follow, and example our every move when they are young. Dads, it is crucial to recognize and become aware of the powerful influence you are. Whether it is good or bad, you are a model for those who are around you. How you conduct yourself, your behavior, your speech and the decisions you make will impact the entire family. You have the ability to positively impact your family creating a lasting legacy of blessings. The Book of Proverbs says, “The righteous man walks in his integrity; His children are blessed after him” (Proverbs 20:7 NKJV).

One of the elements I admire about Eagle Ridge is the loving and friendly atmosphere that we work so hard to maintain. We work at this because people are important to us. When you visit Eagle Ridge you will experience the blessing of Christian fellowship and friendship.

The truth is people like to be known, cared for and acknowledged. In a society driven by fast but impersonal contact; where interaction with others is typically not person-to-person, a void is created within the heart for significant fellowship with others.

God’s Word speaks of the benefits of friendship, “Two people are better than one because {together} they have a good reward for their hard work. If one falls, the other can help his friend get up. But how tragic it is for the one who is {all} alone when he falls. There is no one to help him get up” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 GW).

I witness the reality of this Scripture regularly as lasting friendships develop and Christian fellowship takes place at Eagle Ridge.

“Off To A Good Start”

To get off to a good start in any endeavor what is required is a good plan! I can’t think of a better plan to align yourself with than God’s plan for your life.

The Bible states it this way, “ Unless the LORD builds the house, They labor in vain who build it . . .” (Psalms 127:1a NKJV). The meaning of this Psalm is: Human enterprises only succeed by divine blessing.

You see, God is the Architect of the universe! If we break it down, He’s the Architect of our world, and He’s the Architect of our life as well. This means God has a purpose, a design, and a plan for our life.

The foundation which we build upon is of utmost importance! A proper foundation is essential for the success of all the following and future steps in our endeavors. I encourage you to seek the Lord’s guidance and direction in all you do. It’s never too late to begin with God.

Clutter

These days, our plates are full, the days are short, and the years fly by. In efforts to succeed as a parent, husband, or wife you find yourself exhausted at days end. When your head finally hits the pillow, you toss and turn as your mind races and darts through the clutter of unfinished task, unmet goals and before you no it the alarm goes off and another day has begun!

If this sounds like you, let me encourage you, there’s hope. The hope is found in Christ Jesus who gives us peace. When a person surrenders their heart to the Lord, God distributes peace and security. The Bible says, “I fall asleep in peace the moment I lie down because you alone, O Lord, enable me to live securely” (Psalms 4:8 GW).

Giving God the clutter in your life and finding peace is accomplished by seeking Him in prayer throughout the day, receiving His guidance, and studying His Word, the Bible.

Trust the Lord to guide and lead you in a peace-filled, and secured life.

Prayer Meeting

I was humbled tonight by the attendance at our 21 Day Fasting Movement Prayer Meeting. We had a full house. The largest gathering of people I’ve eve witnessed at a meeting called for prayer.

There was prayer for those devastated by the earthquake in Haiti. We prayed for healing for our members who are sick, prayers for our Nation, families, finances, and the lost.

Tonight was a remarkable evening of breakthroughs!

Happy New Year!

If you are like many others who make New Years Resolutions here is a suggestion. How about examining your life in a new way? Consider joining me in the Fasting Movement 2010, along with thousands of other people who desire breakthroughs in their life, church, community, our Nation and the world!

Andrew Murray said, "Prayer is reaching out after the unseen; fasting is letting go of all that is seen and temporal. Fasting helps express, deepen, confirm the resolution that we are ready to sacrifice anything, even ourselves to attain what we seek for the kingdom of God."

I believe prayer and fasting with a humble spirit brings about God's provision, protection and healing.

"If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land" (2 Chronicles 7:14).

We can make a difference!

Christmas Eve Service 2010

Christmas Eve at Eagle Ridge is such a meaningful and special time. We focus on the birth of our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ! We conclude the service lighting candles as we sing to the Lord. I'm reminded that Jesus is the light of the world and we are to be representatives of His light and love!

I was so blessed with the worship during our candlelight service. Michael Lennertz is a very gifted worship leader. Chris did an awesome job on percussion. He has just the right touch. Nate and Jessica blessed us with their gift singing.

Christ is the reason for the season.

“It’s All About Commitment”

When ordinary people have commitment they can make extraordinary impact on their world. It's all about commitment. Webster's Dictionary defines the word commitment as, "To bind as by promise; pledge." Have you made a legitimate commitment to Christ to be your Savior and Lord? Have you made a commitment to follow Christ in how you live your life?

Scripture tells us in Romans, "That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the died, you will be saved, For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation" (Rom. 10:9-10 NKJV).

When you believe in something, the commitment you make is easier to keep. John Maxwell, in his book The 17 Essential Qualities Of A Team Player says, "People don't really know whether they are committed to something until they face adversity. Struggles strengthen a persons resolve."

Adversity fosters commitment, and commitment fosters hard work. The more you work at something, the less likely you are to give upon it. As NFL Hall of Fame coach Vince Lombardi said, "The harder you work, the harder it is to surrender." Committed people don't surrender easily.

I encourage you to be committed to Christ.

The Freedom Jesus Christ has made Available

I am amazed when I think about the wonderful freedom that comes from our Lord Jesus. The Gospel of John shares this truth, “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed” (John 8:36). This freedom is rooted in what Jesus Christ did for us on the Cross and His Resurrection. The salvation that God has made available gives the convert victory over sin and death. Ephesians 1:7 says, “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.” 1 Corinthians 15:55 states, “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?”

Christians not only have victory over sin and death but, demonic powers as well, “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds” (2 Corinthians 10:4). Freedom is a wonderful thing, however, many Christians don’t walk in the freedom that Christ has made available to them! Why is this? Could it be, a lack of trust in God, or a lack of knowledge concerning the Word of God.

History has shown us man even imposes criteria, ceremony and rules to “Make one acceptable
to God.” The result, becomes a burden, and loss of freedom. Our freedom, which comes from Christ is not based on what we do, it’s based on what Jesus did on the Cross (Romans 14, Galatians 2, Hebrews).

The Bible speaks to us very clearly in the New Testament regarding the freedom that we have in Christ, and not to be caught-up in deceptions that create a burden on us and steel the freedom and victory we have in Jesus. Stop allowing the enemy to rob you, bringing up the mistakes of the past. Stop allowing religious activity to take the place of a relationship with Jesus. It’s not the foods we eat or don’t eat or the days we worship on that please God.

I challenge you to experience the love, power and freedom that Christ has given. We have freedom to have a meaningful relationship with the Lord and to experience the victory He has obtained for us. Remember, freedom cost a great deal. Our freedom was birthed at the Cross of Calvary. We have an additional blessing living in the United States of America “the land of the free.” The freedom we have was paid for by the blood of Jesus. Similarly the forefathers of our great country shed blood and fought courageously to establish a country on Christian principles. That we could be a free people.

Thank the Lord daily in prayer for your freedom. Enjoy the victorious life Christ has made available, don’t abuse it. Remember, “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”
