Then aseismographic crew from an oil company came into the area and told him theremight be oil on his land. They asked permission to drill a wildcat well, and hesigned a lease contract.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;At 1,115 feet they struck a huge oil reserve. The first well came in at 80,000 barrelsa day. Many subsequent wells were more than twice as large. In fact, 30 yearsafter the discovery, a government test of one of the wells showed it still hadthe potential flow of 125,000 barrels of oil a day.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And Mr. Yates owned it all. The day he purchased the land he had received theoil and mineral rights. This offering is to be &lt;em&gt;sacrificial&lt;/em&gt;. Likened to the picture we have in the Old Testament where believers took animals and offered them to God as sacrifices. We are to make the same kind of sacrificial offering to God, but our offering is not to be the sacrifice of an animal's flesh and blood. Ministering in the midst of conflict is not easy, and when conflict is not approached properly, it can lead to feelings of inadequacy; which may evolve into the feeling of burn-out. All this time the plant is storing up the energy to bloom. It has one opportunity to produce thousands of buds and eventually seeds. After the tree has fully bloomed and dropped its seeds the huge trunk slowly withers and will start dying. The plant has expended all of the life that it had nurtured and has nothing left to sustain life. This high honor dictates a careful and reverent handling of the truth. The goal must forever be in mind however, that of reception rather than dispensing. In the Gospel of Luke, Luke states, “So all bore witness to Him, and marveled at the gracious words which proceeded out of His mouth. And they said, "Is this not Joseph's son?" (Luke 4:22 NKJV). Delivery is the key! The gracious words of Christ carried the Gospel message of hope and life. When the proclamation of God’s word is not tempered with love it stings and is not received (1 Cor. 13). The result is hurt and offense.&lt;br /&gt;When you care for people you minister with care. But for the life of me, I can’t remember a single one of them. So, I think I’m wasting my time and the pastors are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all.”&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This started a real controversy in the “Letters to the Editor” column, much to the delight of the editor. It went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;“I’ve been married for 30 years now...In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But, for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. However, I do know this..They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!”&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you need direction for your life and family, or you have been away from church, I want to encourage you to&amp;nbsp;go to&amp;nbsp;a local church that teaches the Bible. Hebrews 10:24-25&amp;nbsp;tells us,&amp;nbsp;"And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works,&amp;nbsp;not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching" (NKJV).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Now do what's right for yourself and your family! As I marveled at the beauty before me I was reminded of God's amazing grace.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A long time ago, a man truly experienced God’s grace His name was John Newton. Though he was brought up in the church as a child, he became a calloused man full of anger, pain, and uncertainty. Because of that, He experienced many troubles. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;At one time, he was a commander of a slave ship. He would anchor his ship off the coast of Africa and pack it with slaves They were ruthlessly chained side by side, row after row, one after another just like a can of sardines. Many slaves died on the long voyages and were thrown overboard for the fish to eat.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;During a raging storm at sea, John Newton finally gave his life to Jesus Christ. Over the next few years, God brought people across his life in order to disciple him. He later became one of Britain’s most powerful evangelists. Feeling guilty about his past slavery involvement, He triumphantly fought against the slave trade. He wrote many hymns during his ministry years but one has become his most famous one. Maybe you’ve heard of it, it's entitled, Amazing Grace.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Have you experienced God’s amazing grace?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;God’s grace can be experienced through His Son Jesus Christ. God’s love letter to us says, “Through the blood of his Son, we are set free from our sins. The Accountant said, "In the neighborhood of $100,000 a year, depending on the benefits package."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The interviewer said, "Well, what would you say to a package of 5 weeks vacation, full medical and dental, Company Retirement Fund to 50% of salary, Executive Share Option Scheme, Profit Related Pay and a company car leased every 2 years - say, a 5 series BMW?"&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Accountant sat up straight and said, "Wow! Are you kidding?" &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The interviewer replied, "Yes, but you started it." &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This story reminds me of a saying we have all heard growing up, “Don’t believe anything you hear and only half of what you see.” During these tough times we are living in it has become difficult to know what you can count on, what is real and not just false hope. The good news is this. God loves you so much that He sent His Son to earth over two-thousand years ago. Jesus the Son of God died on the cross for your sins that you may have eternal life!. You can count on the Lord Jesus to help you, save you, and be with you through difficult times. This is the real deal&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This truth is expressed beautifully in a paraphrase of the Bible called, The Message, “Say the welcoming word to God—"Jesus is my Master"—embracing, body and soul, God's work of doing in us what he did in raising Jesus from the dead. That's it. You're not "doing" anything; you're simply calling out to God, trusting him to do it for you. That's salvation. I’m not aware if there has ever been any better. The Founding Fathers of this great Nation risked it all! Of the 56 signers of the Declaration, few were long to survive. Five were captured by the British as traitors, and tortured before they died. Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned. Two lost their sons in the Revolutionary Army, another had two sons captured. And though few of them benefited from their bravery, and most lost everything they owned, not one recanted his original declaration of independence. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;These men were courageous and valiant and brave and because of them and others, we have the privilege of being here today, and living in the greatest country in the world. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As citizens of such a great nation, we have been blessed with the task of stewardship. Stewardship of a nation in which others fought, sacrificed and died for. Our Founding Fathers sacrificed a great deal in order that we could have this great nation. Men like Jefferson, Washington, Adams, among others paid a great price for our freedom. Throughout the years countless numbers of people have laid their lives on the line to fight for the freedoms we now enjoy.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;All Americans have a responsibility to maintain the greatness of our country. We are responsible to continue the tenants our founding fathers ascribed to so adamantly. Luke tells us in his Gospel, “For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more (Luke 12:48b NKJV).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As great as our country is, we are not without problems. One of the things we need to understand concerning the problems our nation struggles with is the fact they are rooted in spiritual issues. The United States of America is a nation founded on the Word of God. The men who established this nation were God-fearing men.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Patrick Henry stated, “It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians, not on religions, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ!”&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Founding Fathers left us a wonderful country. I couldn’t believe it, but my mother assured me it was true. I was four years older than David and the fact he was adopted did not trouble me, it intrigued me. Why you might ask? Well, it was because David walked like his dad. He even talked like his dad, and many times you could witness his dad in miniature through him. This, my friends is an example of influence. This is the powerful influence that I call, “The Power of Dad.”&lt;br /&gt;Little eyes mimic, follow, and example our every move when they are young. Dads, it is crucial to recognize and become aware of the powerful influence you are. Whether it is good or bad, you are a model for those who are around you. How you conduct yourself, your behavior, your speech and the decisions you make will impact the entire family. You have the ability to positively impact your family creating a lasting legacy of blessings. When you visit Eagle Ridge you will experience the blessing of Christian fellowship and friendship.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The truth is people like to be known, cared for and acknowledged. In a society driven by fast but impersonal contact; where interaction with others is typically not person-to-person, a void is created within the heart for significant fellowship with others.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;God’s Word speaks of the benefits of friendship, “Two people are better than one because {together} they have a good reward for their hard work. If one falls, the other can help his friend get up. But how tragic it is for the one who is {all} alone when he falls. There is no one to help him get up” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 GW). &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I witness the reality of this Scripture regularly as lasting friendships develop and Christian fellowship takes place at Eagle Ridge.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Now, let me ask you, are you connecting? If we break it down, He’s the Architect of our world, and He’s the Architect of our life as well. We had a full house. The largest gathering of people I’ve eve witnessed at a meeting called for prayer.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"&gt;There was prayer for those devastated by the earthquake in Haiti. It's all about commitment. Webster's Dictionary defines the word commitment as, "To bind as by promise; pledge." Have you made a legitimate commitment to Christ to be your Savior and Lord?  Have you made a commitment to follow Christ in how you live your life?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Scripture tells us in Romans, "That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the died, you will be saved, For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation" (Rom. 10:9-10 NKJV).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When you believe in something, the commitment you make is easier to keep. John Maxwell, in his book &lt;em&gt;The 17 Essential Qualities Of A Team Player &lt;/em&gt;says, "People don't really know whether they are committed to something until they face adversity. The more you work at something, the less likely you are to give upon it. As NFL Hall of Fame coach Vince Lombardi said, "The harder you work, the harder it is to surrender." The Gospel of John shares this truth, “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed” (John 8:36). This freedom is rooted in what Jesus Christ did for us on the Cross and His Resurrection. The salvation that God has made available gives the convert victory over sin and death. Ephesians 1:7 says, “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.” 1 Corinthians 15:55 states, “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?”&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Christians not only have victory over sin and death but, demonic powers as well, “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds” (2 Corinthians 10:4). Freedom is a wonderful thing, however, many Christians don’t walk in the freedom that Christ has made available to them! Why is this? Could it be, a lack of trust in God, or a lack of knowledge concerning the Word of God.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;History has shown us man even imposes criteria, ceremony and rules to “Make one acceptable&lt;br /&gt;to God.” The result, becomes a burden, and loss of freedom. Our freedom, which comes from Christ is not based on what we do, it’s based on what Jesus did on the Cross (Romans 14, Galatians 2, Hebrews).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Bible speaks to us very clearly in the New Testament regarding the freedom that we have in Christ, and not to be caught-up in deceptions that create a burden on us and steel the freedom and victory we have in Jesus. Stop allowing the enemy to rob you, bringing up the mistakes of the past. Stop allowing religious activity to take the place of a relationship with Jesus. It’s not the foods we eat or don’t eat or the days we worship on that please God.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I challenge you to experience the love, power and freedom that Christ has given. We have freedom to have a meaningful relationship with the Lord and to experience the victory He has obtained for us. Remember, freedom cost a great deal. Our freedom was birthed at the Cross of Calvary. We have an additional blessing living in the United States of America “the land of the free.” The freedom we have was paid for by the blood of Jesus. Similarly the forefathers of our great country shed blood and fought courageously to establish a country on Christian principles. That we could be a free people.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Thank the Lord daily in prayer for your freedom. Enjoy the victorious life Christ has made available, don’t abuse it.
